Eating Healthy Changes

I hope this email finds you well. With the beginning of a New Year it gives us an opportunity to improve upon our current habits and add new healthy habits. Making changes in your diet can be beneficial for your breast health. I have created a list of foods to eat regularly to reduce your risk of developing cancer and particularly breast cancer.
Golden Flaxseed

Flaxseed is rich in omega-3's, lignans and fiber that help fight cancer cells. Flaxseed can also help lower the risk of diabetes and heart disease. It can be added into smoothies and on salads.



Pumpkin Seed

Magnesium can be found in pumpkin seeds and has been shown to benefit your blood pressure and help prevent sudden cardiac arrest, heart attack and stroke. It is estimated that 80 percent of Americans are deficient in this important mineral.





Nuts

Nuts are packed with heart-healthy fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Nuts help reduce inflammation, help improve your immune system, helps prevent growth of a tumor and is abundant in protein.



Apples

Are a rich source of antioxidants, fiber, and other compounds needed for anti-cancer nutrition. They also help stop the growth of cancer cells. Apples are one of the dirty dozen, so always buy organic. ewg.org is a great website to learn about where to source your foods from.



Garlic
Helps slow down tumor growth and prevent breast cancer risk among other forms of cancer such as colorectal and prostate cancers.



Pomegranate

Pomegranates are recognized as a rich source of antioxidants. It contains polyphenol- an ellagic acid with anti-oxidant properties that prevent cancer growth.



Dark Leafy Greens

Fends off cancerous cells, i.e. fibre, vitamin B, phytochemicals, chlorophyll and more. Dark leafy greens such as broccoli have been shown to regulate cell growth in multiple ways and help fight a range of cancers, including breast, bladder, lymphoma, prostate and lung cancer.




Berries

Blueberries are packed with antioxidants, called anthocyanins, that may help keep memory sharp as you age, and raspberries contain ellagic acid, a compound with anti-cancer properties. All berries are great sources of fiber, a nutrient important for a healthy digestive system.
